If you’ve ever reinvented yourself (or tried to explain to someone who you are), this is your story.
Directed by Jef Hall-Flavin, this world premiere pays tribute to WHAT’s early years with puppetry, shadow play, and costume/prop shenanigans.

Bethany Caputo* – Gertrude Moody
Laura Latreille* – Dorothea
John Long* – Arthur

“Mythology and creation theory are woven into a coming of age fable, with tasty little scientific and historical tidbits tossed into the mix. We forget for moments that the protagonist is avian, as we are drawn into novel explanations of how the world and its creatures were created; what spirit is and what makes us who we are. Burke proffers the idea that perhaps it takes a novel species to get to the bones of understanding being, human or otherwise.”

“It’s not every day that a 400-year-old flightless parrot becomes a fashion icon, but when it does, you want to be there to see it. And that’s what audiences get with WHAT’s world premiere ofThe Trials of Gertrude Moody: a front-row seat to a story straight out of the Arabian Nights, and a clever, smart-aleck bird to narrate it.” -Jeannette de Beauvoir, Provincetown Magazine

“Trudy’s journey effortlessly and often hilariously points at ideas about gender norms, cultural boundaries, creation myths, human trafficking, physical beauty, patriarchal privilege, feminine identity, and, ultimately, what it means to be human. To me, this is the mark of a good play. It is why I go to the theater: to explore ideas larger than my own, and to be delighted while doing so.” Jef Hall-Flavin
